New Beginnings (6 Sonnets)

Leaves
Published 1st January 2024

We are like trees, with roots into the earth,
Our roots of how we were once planted since our birth,

From seed to sapling and various forms,
We grew over the years and weathered some storms,

Don’t make bad environments stump how to grow so high,
Stand tall, bloom, reach those branches to the sky.

As each year passes we shed old leaves, to leave the past upon,
New leaves emerge, new beginnings as life carries on,

The autumn leaves have dropped & are out of sight,
Spring forth into action while the sun shines bright.

You can always flourish after the leaves fall,
Drop seeds of knowledge & wisdom for all,

New life, new year, new times & new leaves,
Embrace it with love, positivity & peace.

Midlife Crisis
Published 31st January 2024

When you get to a certain time in your life,
Weather you’re a woman or a man,
A midlife crisis may forced upon us,
To change everything it can,

It may be something you thought of for a while,
Stuck in a rut, thinking everything is boring,
Or a major traumatic family change,
Which makes you feel worth ignoring,

Daydreaming of happy nostalgia & how you used to be,
Ruminating on the bad times & mistakes of the past,
Getting irritable & restless by other peoples choices,
Regret from missed opportunities of relationships that didn’t last,

Impulsive behaviour like spending,
Or indulging in infidelity if that’s what you desire,
For others we have decreased these actions,
We’re looking to relight that fire,

Bouts of sadness & joy,
Mixed feelings about where you are at,
Thinking of starting a new life,
New people, new career or even new habitat,

Though we can’t change that we’re ageing,
Grey hair & wrinkles show us that we’re getting old,
We can identify & accept these changes,
And realise that it’s beyond our control,

Prioritise self-care & look after yourself,
Find purpose & goals to pursue,
This is only the ‘middle’ of your life,
There’s more to come from you.

Grounding
Published 30th May 24

When you feel flustered, at the end of your tether,
Good & bad days, just like the unpredictable British weather,

It is a known fact that nature is good for our mental health,
It’s a connectedness feeling with others & ourselves,

Get yourself out in the sun, rain or wind, & feel the elements flow,
Nature can ease your mind, where you can let your worries go,

It’s a place where you can relax & drop your defences,
Grounding mindfully by using all your senses,

Being connected calms you & helps relaxation,
It restores your well-being & gives you revitalisation,

Look after this beloved Earth that we love,
Enjoy it all from the ground below to the sky above,

Accept the beauty that is freely all around you,
Maybe the trees, clouds & flowers like looking at you too.

Broken People
Published 10th  November  24

There comes a time in our lives,
When some things we can’t bear,
A lot of things can break our spirits,
Feeling like we are beyond repair,

Broken people, cry in silence & speak less,
For we have seen darkest days,
But from that depth there is a light,
A lesson learned to change our ways,

We, the ones with the brightest smiles,
And the ones with the loudest laughs,
Once we’re feeling without hope & worth,
Gratitude & friends set us on new paths,

Even though we build the toughest walls,
And probably live the loneliest of lives,
We think more deeper than others,
Yet we love the hardest, upon which thrives,

When we pick up the pieces,
And heal what has been scattered,
We wear the gold Kintsugi scars,
As a reminder of things less mattered,

Being broken doesn’t mean we’re any less,
It shows we have a compassionate heart,
Broken people save broken people,
There’s always a way to make a new start,

Like broken biscuits in a barrel,
Unwilling to accept defeat,
Different colours, shapes and flavours,
We are all still just as sweet.

Time.
Published 11th April 25

Time is precious, time can be rare,
We all need to take time to care,

Time is easily lost, and can be hard to find,
It flies over us, and leaves its shadow behind,

Time never stops, forever counting,
Never slowing down and always mounting,

Time is measured by moments, and not just by the moon,
Turns present experiences into memories, to be gone too soon,

Time is what we crave most, but it is what we misuse,
It can heal our wounds, and our pains it soothes,

Time that you enjoy wasting, is not wasted at all,
Your fun and happiness is a priority, no matter big or small,

Time is something that you must make, or those you will miss,
You never know when it may be a last hug or a kiss.

Midlife Strength.
Published 25th August '25

There comes a moment midway in life,
Whether you’re a woman or a man,
When the past weighs heavy, yet also teaches,
And gratitude quietly shows you can,

Two hernia surgeries tested my body,
Each step felt like climbing a hill,
Pain taught patience, rest taught presence,
And each small victory reminded me of the power of will,

A love once toxic left deep scars,
Draining my heart, clouding my view,
Yet slowly I found courage to heal,
And learned that self-love can see you through,

Friends walked softly along my journey,
Their gentle presence a steady light,
A laugh, a word, a quiet embrace,
Made even dark days feel warm and bright,

We all make mistakes, stumble, and fall,
Some heavy, some that sting and bruise,
Yet each misstep shapes the person inside,
And teaches wisdom we could not choose,

Grey hairs and scars tell stories of survival,
Proof of battles fought and lessons learned,
The heart grows softer, braver, bolder,
And gratitude blooms for all that I’ve earned,

I cherish the body that carried me through,
I honour the heart that refused to break,
Midlife is not a closing chapter,
But a new canvas I’m ready to make,

So I care for myself, step forward with hope,
Embrace love, friendship, and all that is true,
With strength renewed, and spirit alive,
The best chapters are waiting for you.
